Single page website, also called Parallax scrolling website has become a hot and fascinating web design trend in 2016.

The website consists of a long single page for the visitors, where all the contents exist. When you click the website navigation, it will take you to different section of the page whereas, in the traditional website architecture, clicking on of navigation bar would have lead it to different page.

They are great deal for attracting mobile users as they look great on mobile devices, tablets and smart phones. Leaving the traditional website architecture i.e. having multiple pages, single page web design is gaining its popularity day by day.

Single page websites are best for the companies that offer single product or service. If your website content can fit on a single page, then, why to make it complex by adding more pages.

The best thing to do is design a good looking single page website, which is user-friendly and keeps the user comfy in a same web space. Because of having only a page, it is far affordable than the websites with multiple pages.

What are its benefits?

A lot of research has already been done by experts on how beneficial it would be to adopt single page web design. The first and immediate benefit of having one page website is having all content/ information in same single page in a simple manner with a straightforward navigation, which makes it easier for user to find all information at a glance.

Some experts too argue that one page websites are more user-friendly and have high conversion rates. The study performed by 37signals on single-page conversion also shows that the long form page leads to net sign ups by 37.5% more than the multiple paged websites.

Because of having only one page, single page websites result into reduced bandwidth and are easier to maintain. The reduced size of the website makes it faster than the multiple paged websites, which leads user to enjoy faster browsing and decrease in bounce rate of the website.

Not only, one page websites are cost effective than multiple paged websites, they also look great on mobile devices and has got its own SEO benefits.

What are its Downsides?

Like everything has its advantages and disadvantages, one page website too has got its own downsides. It is most important to consider the drawbacks after going through benefits. The first and foremost drawback of having one page website is the content limitation.

If you need to display all the different services and products offered by your company, then you need to add more pages and display each of your product and service in detail. In this case, one size fits all approach does not work here.

Quality and creativity matter a lot while designing one page website. If you fail to provide this then, you will fail to provide a better user experience.

The last and major drawback of one page website is performing SEO. Search engines, mostly Google, love content and single page website do not have much content.

With one page website, you will be able to target only few keywords in single page and you won’t have additional pages for keyword variations which lessens the chance of being indexed.

Tips to optimise your one-page website

In past, optimising and working on page ranking for single page website was more troublesome as Google seemed to be pretty useless on ranking one page website. However, the time has changed, so has Google. Google has become smarter and intelligent now; it has started acknowledging single page websites. Here are some proven tips to optimise your single page website which will help you to improve your website’s rank.
• Paginate your site

Web Crawlers, especially Googlebots love websites with paginated structure. Traditional structure websites with multiple pages by default supports paginated structure. If you also want to be in favor of Googlebots then, you need to restructure your format and make sure that your site has organized pagination.

But, HOW to do that?

Pagination can be done by creating clear and distinct sections, each of which is devoted to different purposes. This also makes site navigation a lot easier and plus, you can also use specific keywords for each section.

The best method to separate different sections is by assigning a separate <div>. However, you must keep in mind that, although ids might be used in organising content, they should not be employed as keywords, since CSS tags are typically not SEO-Friendly. You can use HTML anchor links for optimization.

• Keywords optimization

With the limited space, you need to know exactly which keywords will get you the best results and where to place them. Research and find the best keywords for your site, which will reflect your business, service and product well.

Once you find your target keywords, make sure your keywords are visible on your page. Place your keywords in Meta tag (meta-title, meta-description and meta-keyword) and page content. Your target keyword should appear within 100 words of your initial page content. But, do keep one thing in mind, AVOID KEYWORD STUFFING.

• Anchor link optimisation

Since, one page site do not have separate URLs to optimise, the only thing you have is to play around with the anchor links. Anchor links are supposed to help users to jump to the required section on the same page.

Those required sections can be optimised by optimising their anchor links. For optimal result, this can be done by using DIV ids as the anchor links, and then using the links on the navigation bar. For example, suppose you’ve Social Media Marketing section on your single page website, then the DIV id may be named as:
<div id= “social-media-marketing”>
The anchor link to above can be created as:
<a href=“#social-media-marketing”>Social+Media+Marketing</a>

And, now you have got completely functional and SEO-friendly URL on your webpage.

Sites with multiple pages follow “only have one H1” rule as there is no need to have more than one title but, single page site can be the rare exceptions to this rule. You can use multiple H1 tags to indicate a separation in content. Using multiple H1 tags also provide an opportunity to optimise keywords and make your page more SEO-friendly.

To include alt image tag, you need to simply add alt=”this is your alt tag” to your image tag. For example, if you have an image of a girl smiling then, image alt tag of this image can be;
